The places to sleep in Svaneti are almost all family-run, and most operate on a full-board model — you pay for the room, and breakfast and dinner come with it. The food is cooked in the household kitchen, which also means your host is usually the same person advising on trail conditions and calling ahead to the next village. It is a practical setup that works well for hikers moving through the region. Further along the valley the options thin out, and the most remote villages have one or two places at most. July and August are tight — it is worth booking ahead rather than arriving on spec. The guide below covers the options by location, with notes on what each offers.
