Tusheti

Filter Showing 1 of 1

Tusheti is Georgia's most remote mountain region, reachable only via a single unpaved road over the Abano Pass that opens in late spring and closes again with the first autumn snow — usually June to September, sometimes shorter. The region sits in the northeast, away from the main tourist circuits, and the trails here reflect that: quieter, less marked, and better suited to hikers who are prepared for longer days and self-sufficient travel. The landscape is defined by high ridgelines, medieval stone tower villages, and deep valleys with little infrastructure beyond family guesthouses. Multi-day routes connect Tusheti to the neighbouring highland of Khevsureti across high alpine passes; shorter routes are possible from the main village of Omalo without the same level of commitment. Either way, getting here requires planning — the road conditions and transport options are not like Svaneti. Trail guides below explain the routes, access logistics, and what level of preparation each one demands.
